Rhapsody & Rhythm has played to sold-out crowds in North America including Minnesota\, Denver\, Omaha\, Columbus\, Pittsburgh\, Milwaukee\, Palo Alto\, the Savannah Musical Festival and many others.\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n RICHARD GLAZIER\, Pianist\, Raconteur & Cultural Historian\nBorn in Indianapolis\, Indiana\, Richard Glazier began studying piano when he was six years old. When he was nine years old he saw the 1943 film “Girl Crazy” on television. It starred Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney and had a score by George & Ira Gershwin. He was so excited by the music he was inspired to write a fan letter to the lyricist Ira Gershwin. After corresponding with each other for three years\, Gershwin invited his young friend\, then 12\, to meet him in Beverly Hills. During their visit\, Ira asked Glazier to play a Gershwin tune on the piano that once belonged to his brother\, legendary composer George Gershwin. Fueled by Ira’s encouragement and interest\, Glazier dedicated himself to the Gershwin repertoire and the American Popular Songbook. \nGlazier earned his Bachelor and Master degrees in Piano Performance from Indiana University School of Music and a Doctorate of Musical Arts from the Cleveland Institute of Music. In 2007\, CIM awarded him its prestigious Alumni Achievement Award for his contributions to American Popular Song. He has also won several major international piano competitions including the Pro Musicis International Award and the National Federation of Music Clubs Young Artist Competition. \nGlazier’s passion for the Great American Popular Song has led him to create special programs celebrating both the golden age of Broadway and Hollywood. He plays incredible piano arrangements\, then tells the history behind the songs\, sharing fascinating stories about the composers\, the shows\, the films and the stars. His programs often include vintage images and rare film clips. \nGlazier has played in concert halls across the country including Carnegie Hall\, the Smithsonian\, the National Portrait Gallery\, the Library of Congress\, and internationally including the Salle Cortot in Paris. \nGlazier has had three nationally broadcast television specials on PBS. The shows have won multiple awards\, including four Telly Awards for Outstanding Achievement in entertainment\, documentary and cultural programming. He has been featured on the PBS NewsHour and has produced six CDs for Centaur Records and most recently his latest television project was broadcast on Turner Classic Movies. \nRichard Glazier is a Steinway Artist. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n MICHAEL ANDREW\nFor 2 years\, Michael Andrew was the headline singer and bandleader at the world famous Rainbow Room atop Rockefeller Center in New York City where he entertained audiences nightly and hosted a live Radio Broadcast\, “LIVE FROM THE RAINBOW ROOM.” He was the band-leader and singer at Merv Griffin’s “Coconut Club” in The Beverly Hilton in California. Within three years\, the ensemble was awarded the String Quartet Fellowship of the Aspen Music Festival\, where it was invited to return for the subsequent summer’s concert season. The quartet was also invited to study with the Emerson String Quartet at the Carnegie Hall Professional Training Workshop. \nThe Euclid Quartet’s career includes significant global recognition as the first American string quartet to be awarded a top prize at the prestigious Osaka International Chamber Music Competition. Prior to its Japanese laurels\, the quartet also won awards in numerous United States competitions\, including the Hugo Kauder International Competition for String Quartets\, The Carmel Chamber Music Competition and the Chamber Music Yellow Springs Competition. In 2009\, the Euclid Quartet was awarded the esteemed “American Masterpieces” grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. \nThe Euclid is a frequent guest ensemble at American and Canadian music festivals\, among them those of Aspen\, Great Lakes\, Kent/Blossom\, Mostly Modern and Orford\, while expanded programs have included collaborations with internationally renowned artists\, including Adrian Daurov\, James Dunham\, Gregory Fulkerson\, Warren Jones\, Paul Katz\, Joseph Silverstein and Alexander Toradze. \nIn 2007\, the Euclid Quartet was appointed to the prestigious string quartet residency at Indiana University South Bend\, where its members teach private lessons and coach chamber music. Passionately devoted to presenting the highest quality chamber music to young audiences\, these seasoned teaching artists have performed for thousands of students and young adults\, in part\, through support from the National Endowment for the Arts and collaborations with Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute and the Fischoff National Chamber Music Association. \nActive in the recording studio\, the Euclid Quartet issued a pair of CDs\, comprising the six string quartets of Béla Bartók on Artek Recordings. The American Record Guide raved about these discs\, “rarely has a group found such meaning and vision.” Their debut CD\, on Centaur records\, features the first four quartets of Hugo Kauder\, a refugee from Nazi-occupied Austria who fled to the United States in the 1940s; he defied the atonal trend of his generation with his uniquely harmonic\, contrapuntal style. On Afinat Records is “American Quartets: Antonín Dvorák & Wynton Marsalis\,” including of Dvorák’s String Quartet #12 (“American”) and Marsalis’ At the Octoroon Balls – String Quartet #1. In 2024\, Afinat released two CDs: “Breve\,” a collection of beloved miniatures\, comprised of Alvarez\, Bolcom\, Gershwin\, Mozart\, Piazzolla\, Puccini\, Schubert\, Shostakovich\, Turina\, Webern and Wolf\, and a pairing of the Grieg and Debussy string quartets in g minor. \n \n View Program Details
