CRAFTSBURY CHAMBER PLAYERS TRIO

Musicians from the Craftsbury Chamber Players — Joyce Hammann, violin; Frances Rowell, cello; and Adrienne Kim, piano. The piano trio will perform solos and duets featuring the music of Vivaldi, Debussy, Sousa and de Falla. The program concludes with Mendelssohn’s Piano Trio No. 1, Op. 49 in d minor.
At ease across a gamut of genres and stages, violinist Joyce Hammann’s virtuosity always shines through. Her performances have been hailed as “splendid soloing” and having a “sweet, rich tone” by The New York Times.
Joyce has performed and recorded with popular artists such as Paul McCartney, Sting, Michael Jackson, Bruce Springsteen and Tony Bennett, as well as numerous film/theatrical releases and multiple appearances on Late Night with David Letterman and Saturday Night Live.
Her discography includes many cutting edge contemporary music projects. Joyce regularly performs as a member of The Harlem Chamber Players, The Craftsbury Chamber Players (Vermont) and The Meeting House Players (Cape Cod). She will be touring Europe with Uri Caine as solo violinist with his jazz ensemble and as concertmaster for Fred Hersch’s Coma Dreams, jazz theater project. Currently Joyce is concertmaster for The Phantom of the Opera, Broadway’s longest running show.
Cellist Frances Rowell grew up in Craftsbury on the family farm, graduated from Craftsbury Academy, and headed straight to the Juilliard School in New York City. After graduating from Juilliard with Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Music she enjoyed a jack-of-all-trades professional musical life in eastern Pennsylvania before joining the New Jersey Symphony in 1995. In addition to her concert performances and extensive outreach work with the NJSO, she is an adjunct instructor of cello at Montclair State University. An inventor as well as a cellist, she received a United States Patent for a portable endpin resonating platform for the cello and has designed a stool for students which helps address posture issues. Fran has been the Music Director of the Craftsbury Chamber Players since 2016.
Pianist Adrienne Kim has performed in most of the major venues in New York City Boston’s Symphony Hall, Washington D.C.’s Phillips Gallery and Ravinia’s Rising Stars series in Chicago. She was a member of Chamber Music Society Two, The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center’s two-year residency program for emerging young artists. She is the pianist of the Alcott Trio and a founding member of the New York Chamber Music Co-Op, a new creative performance collaborative based in New York City.
Ms. Kim teaches at Mannes College in the Prep and College divisions where she serves as Coordinator of the Piano Department in the Prep division and the Coordinator of Secondary Piano in the College division. She studied with Menahem Pressler at Indiana University where she earned her Bachelor’s degree and earned her Master’s degree from Manhattan School of Music, where she was a student of Leon Fleisher.
The Craftsbury Chamber Players has been performing chamber music each summer in the Northeast Kingdom since 1965, adding performances in the Burlington area in 1982. For information about our 2018 summer concerts go to www.craftsburychamberplayers.org.
